Play therapy provides children with a safe, developmentally appropriate space to express emotions, build regulation skills, and work through challenges that may be difficult to put into words. Through play, children can explore feelings, experiences, and stressors in ways that feel natural and non-threatening. While sessions may look like play, play therapy is a structured, evidence-based approach guided by therapeutic goals and clinical training. Play is the child’s language and in play therapy it is used intentionally and therapeutically to support growth and healing.
Play therapy is often especially helpful when children are experiencing anxiety, emotional overwhelm, behavioral challenges, or difficulty with transitions.
Play Therapy
Who is Play Therapy For?
Play therapy may be a good fit for children who are:
Struggling with anxiety, worry, or emotional regulation
Experiencing frequent meltdowns or behavioral challenges
Having difficulty with transitions or changes in routine
Adjusting to family, school, or life stressors
Finding it hard to express thoughts or emotions verbally
Children don’t need to fully understand or explain what’s wrong for play therapy to be effective. The work meets them where they are developmentally.
How I Support Children and Families
My approach to play therapy is grounded in connection, safety, and respect for each child’s developmental stage. Rather than relying on pressure or performance, I use play-based approaches that allow children to express what they’re carrying while building emotional awareness and regulation skills.
Because children exist within families, caregivers are an important part of the process. I work collaboratively with parents and caregivers to:
Understand what may be underlying a child’s behavior
Support regulation and connection at home
Offer practical guidance that fits your family’s values and daily life
Play therapy is often integrated within family therapy, especially when supporting parenting concerns or relational dynamics.

Next Steps
If you’re interested in individual therapy or have questions about whether it’s the right fit, you’re welcome to reach out. I’m happy to talk through options and help you decide what support might feel most helpful.
Play therapy is a good fit when a child needs support expressing emotions, managing anxiety, or navigating challenges in a way that aligns with their developmental level. Early on, we collaborate with caregivers to create a treatment plan that reflects the child’s needs and family goals.
Sessions are structured with intention but remain flexible, allowing the work to evolve as a child grows and changes. Session length is determined collaboratively and may range from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the child’s needs and attention span.
Some families may choose therapy intensives for focused parenting or family support, while others benefit from the child engaging in ongoing play therapy over time. We can discuss which option, or combination, feels most supportive for your child and family.
